Q: “We have an application that was written by a company that no longer exists that produces our invoices. I think it was written in Visual Basic.

Left high and dry

Q: A key staff member has left our business who had developed and maintained an application written in Microsoft Access over the past 10years.

The application is stable (we think) and we just need help in changing the application as changes emerge. This is generally a once or twice a year thing.

A: In this scenario we can recommend two types of action.

1.We can provide "break fix" support as required, or if a moe rigorous SLA is required,

Q: Our IT department currently employs two staff members who maintain no less than three applications writ in Visual Basic 6.0.

Management sees them as prime candidates for "resettlement" given that they only are utilised <40% of the time.

I don't disagree with the concept however need a way to ensure the applications are maintained after the cost cutting is complete.
